William Smith, PT

Willie is a 1990 graduate of the physical therapy program at the University of Maryland Eastern Shore. He worked in both outpatient physical therapy and home health before opening Smith & Prothero Physical Therapy with Rick Prothero in December 2000.  Willie has over 30 years experience in outpatient orthopaedic and neurologic rehabilitation. He has focused on one-on-one care and patient education over the last 3 decades. He is certified in Vestibular Assessment and Management through the American Institute of Balance, as well as, Concussion Management through Impact. He lives in Forest Hill with his wife, Maria, and enjoys working outside.

Rick Prothero, PT

Rick is a 1976 graduate from the department of Physical Therapy at the University of Maryland School of Medicine. He worked in acute care settings before going into private practice in 1982. He established his present practice, Smith & Prothero Physical Therapy, in 2000. Rick’s special areas of interest include geriatrics, sports medicine, orthopedics and orthotic fabrication. He resides in Harford County with his wife and has two grown daughters. Rick is an accomplished sailor and sailing instructor.

Anthony Malek, MPT, CLT

Tony is a 1999 graduate of the Physical Therapy program at Temple University. He worked in both inpatient and outpatient rehabilitation before joining Smith & Prothero Physical Therapy in 2006. Tony's special areas of interest are the foot and ankle, gait and balance assessment, and lymphedema management. Tony and his wife Trish live in Harford County with their two sons. Tony is an avid runner and cyclist.

Raymond Cooper, OT/L, CLT

Ray is a 1988 graduate of the Occupational Therapy program at Towson University and a 2000 graduate of the MBA program at Loyola College. He worked in both acute care and outpatient rehabilitation before joining Smith & Prothero Physical Therapy in 2006. Ray's areas of special interest are lymphedema management, hand therapy, and custom splint fabrication. He resides in Harford County with his wife Kim and their two children. Ray is retired from the U.S. Coast Guard and enjoys sports with his children.

Kelly Fulp, PT

Physical Therapist - Havre de Grace

Kelly is a life-long resident of Harford County. She graduated in 1998 from Aberdeen High School, then attended UMBC. She earned her B.S. degree from the University of Maryland at Baltimore in 1992. Kelly has worked as a physical therapist in outpatient settings throughout Harford County for the majority of her career. She joined the team at Smith & Prothero Physical Therapy in 2007. While our office sees a diverse mixture of patients, she especially enjoys treating adults with orthopaedic concerns. “Our small private practice allows me to get to know my patients on a personal level, while giving me the opportunity to improve the physical well-being of our local community members through a patient-centered hands-on approach.” When not working, she enjoys spending time outdoors, whether it is gardening, attending sporting events, exploring parks and hiking trails, or relaxing in a comfy chair by the water or the fire pit. “I try to make the best of every day and helping my patients feel better so that they can do the same!”

Laura began working with William Smith and Rick Prothero in 1996. She has worked in the outpatient setting, home care, and nursing facilities. Since 2000, she has been at Smith & Prothero Physical Therapy. Her areas of interest are in geriatrics, sports medicine, and disorders of the lumbar spine. Laura lives in Havre de Grade, MD, and has two grown daughters. She enjoys hiking, biking, and being outdoors.

Joanna Frank, ms, otr/l, clt

Occupational Therapist - Bel Air

 

Joanna joined Smith & Prothero / Chesapeake Lymphedema Center having worked in a skilled nursing environment. She earned a Bachelor of Science in psychology in 2012 from Towson State University and a license as a Certified Occupational Therapy Assistant from the Community College of Baltimore County in 2014. She is also a licensed massage therapist with over 10 years of experience. Joanna completed lymphedema training for certification in complete decongestive therapy through Monarch Continuing Education. In her spare time, she enjoys yoga, kayaking, and hiking.

Amanda Schmuff, MS, OTR/L, CLT

Occupational Therapist - Havre de Grace

Amanda joined Chesapeake Lymphedema Center in August 2020. She graduated with a Master’s of Science in Occupational Therapy from Towson University in 2007 and, since graduation, has worked in a variety of clinical settings including skilled nursing facilities, inpatient hospitals, home health care, and outpatient settings. Amanda became certified in lymphedema practice through The Academy of Lymphatic Studies in 2013 and has since decided to focus her area of expertise on treating clients with diagnoses that have resulted from a compromise in the lymphatic system. It is her mission to work with each client to determine their personal goals and to provide a customized program of both physical and emotional support to ensure successful outcomes. Amanda is a contributing member of the Lymphedema Education and Research Network. She is currently pursuing further certifications in both wound care and oncology rehabilitation to provide the most current techniques to manage more complex lymphedema cases.

Laura Hummel, ms, otr/l, clt

Occupational Therapist - Bel Air

 

Laura graduated Towson University in 2011 with her Masters in Occupational Therapy. She has worked in sub-acute, acute, transitional, and outpatient care; in assisted living, and in acute rehabilitation. Laura studied lymphedema management through Klose Training. Laura joined Smith & Prothero / Chesapeake Lymphedema Center, 2019. She loves working in an intimate setting, with dynamic and knowledgeable therapists. Laura’s areas of interest are lymphedema management, geriatrics, cognition, neurological disorders, and mental health. Laura puts her patients’ needs first, and she takes a holistic approach when implementing her treatment plan. Laura and her husband recently bought a home in Timonium, where she wakes up early to work out, often with her two young children, who love yoga. All three stretch alongside her supremely sassy cat.

Joanne Kassimir, OTR, CHT

Occupational Therapist / Certified Hand Therapist - Havre de Grace

Joanne is a 1979 graduate of the Occupational Therapy program at Temple University, in Philadelphia.  She is a Certified Hand Therapist specializing in the evaluation and treatment of the hand and upper extremity and the custom fabrication of thermoplastic splints/orthotics.  Joanne has worked in acute and outpatient rehabilitation settings including her own successful hand therapy practices on Long Island in New York before joining Smith & Prothero Physical and Occupational Therapy in 2020.  Joanne has recently relocated to Havre de Grace with her husband Andy.  She has two grown daughters and two grandchildren. She enjoys kayak fishing, boating, singing barbershop, yoga, working out and spending time with family.

Kyralee comeaux, PTA

Physical Therapist Assistant - Bel Air

As a graduate of Cecil College’s Physical Therapist Assistant program, Kyralee has enjoyed working primarily in the outpatient setting. With experience working with a variety populations including chronic pain and orthopedic patients, she is excited to work with everyone at Smith & Prothero Physical Therapy. In her spare time she enjoys spending time with her dog Loki, running, and hiking!
